Abstract

I have come to Pune, a midsized city in India that is 60 miles southeast of Bombay, to spend three months observing allopathic and Ayurvedic doctors care for patients. Ayurveda is a holistic system of medicine that has been practiced in India for over 5,000 years. I wondered whether those who practice Ayurvedic medicine might take a different approach to decisions involving terminally ill patients, and whether we in the West might have anything to learn from this ancient system.
