Description

Clarissa Mickevicius Jakobsons

I invite you to my solo exhibition honoring 49 years in the arts mingling artist books and oil paintings. There is a common thread that weaves this collection together. Perhaps it’s about women who were born in the wrong place and time—I in Germany, during WW II, or Camille Claudel during the 1800’s, in France. Perhaps I’ve been captivated by the perceived thoughts of other female artists and what motivated them to live their lives as they did. These are universal questions and I haven’t figured out all the answers but hope people come, see my exhibit and share their thoughts with me.

A painting may converse with the poems in my books. It’s been an evolutionary process to get to this point. Some work may look representational but it’s more than a visual representation. I am excited to share these books because so much of me went into each book. Not only in content but paper choices, images, and binding selections, which all come from a vision. I continually create something new and different. The words are there because they came from me. The pages may be hand stitched by me. Every element represents the essence of my artistic viewpoint. I hope people stop to consider what it is, and know that it was created with a controlled freedom. I make choices. The books are short in length but I will be happy if they have a long lasting provocative effect upon the viewer.
