" 2,Traveled through most of East Germany. Went to school at West Virginia State and Ohio Valley College after he was discharged. Joined Antioch in 1952. 3,Describes his leadership positions within the church. The changes he has seen was the encouragement of further education. 4,The younger generations in the church left Cleveland to seek employment. The ministers and deacons have influenced Bush the most. 5,Favorite activity he was involved in was on the Boy Scouts at Antioch- specifically because is it important to know what is takes to be a good father. Earliest memories are having a lot of good looking women and the direction of the church. 6,First job was shoe shining in Wellsville. Was a financial record keeper at the Cleveland Schools when he came to Cleveland. 7,Significant events include building Antioch Towers- built a story in a day and a half. Hopes for Antioch to reach out into the community. 8,This is difficult because those who moved to the suburbs are not that willing to come and serve in the inner-city. Feels the general community believes Antioch is an elitist church. The church is one of four or five that are rather large. 9,Describes how important education is for he and his wife and his children. 10,The worship services were more reserved when he joined. 11,"The sanctuary has not changed- is an advocate for keeping it that way. Belonged to the Council on World Affairs, there was an enjoyable night life. Also focused on employment and church work. " 17,Various night clubs had good music. There was also the Cleveland Orchestra along with other education outlets- favorite place to go to was the Cleveland Orchestra. 18,Did not participate in block clubs. The clubs were formed for personal reasons- fighting for improvement in the area meant there was a troubled area. 19,"Participated in the Orbit Club Investment Club. Owners refused to sell McDonald's, teamed with the black nationalists, but decided not to buy into the units. " 20,The club also bought stock as an investment. Cleveland was no exception for discrimination. There were areas you were not welcome- you could either buy into those areas or there was no reason for you to be there. 21,Chose Antioch because there was better programming- the kind of church he wanted to belong to. When he first started at Antioch- there was an ownership that was not supported the by city of Cleveland. 22,"The area deteriorated, but the Cleveland Clinic is helping the Fairfax improve. Glenville had a rapid turnover from Jewish people to black people- and now the black community is moving out into the suburbs. " 23,The deterioration was caused by the neglect of the city. The Glenville Riots was caused by the McDonald's not paying attention to black investors. Other groups took advantage of those efforts and protested. 24,Observed the shooting and burning of the riots. 25,The services of ministers that followed McKinney were similar because the search committee looks for similar qualities. 26,Was present when Martin Luther King came to Antioch.
