Description

The Illustrated Book – Exhibit On View October-December 2015

Main Library, 325 Superior Ave. Cleveland OH

Special Collections, 3rd floor – John G. White Exhibit Corridor

The Illustrated Book exhibit presents an overview of the history of book illustration that ranges from pictographs to the 20th century. At first, writing itself was pictorial and evolved into the developments of different alphabets. As text dominated the communication process, illustrations began to serve as visual commentaries to the text. The written word combined with illustrations enhances the story and makes it easier to remember. As the saying goes “a picture is worth a thousand words”.
