International Journal of the Linguistic Association of the Southwest
The International Journal of the Linguistic Association of the Southwest (ISSN 0737-4143) is published semiannually in June and December by the Linguistic Association of the Southwest. Volumes 1-5 were published as The Journal of the Linguistic Association of the Southwest. Volumes 6-30 were published as the Southwest Journal of Linguistics. Volumes 36-41 do not exist due to a delay in publications. Starting with Volume 42, the journal is changing to an open access online format. For back issues you can contact the Editor.
Subscription to the International Journal of the Linguistic Association of the Southwest is included with membership in the Association. Individual membership dues are $40 per calendar year. Student memberships are $25.00 per calendar year, with proof of student status. Life memberships are $450.00.

Current Issue: Volume 44, Number 1 (2025)
We continue to publish at least one issue per year of the International Journal of the Linguistic Association of the Southwest in its open-access, online format. Our goal for 2026 is to produce two issues, one special issue and one general issue, as part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen the journal’s visibility and scholarly reach.
In this edition, we present the 2024 Presidential Address, three research articles, and three book reviews. We are also pleased to introduce a new section: the Helmut Esau Award, which recognizes the best student paper presented at our annual meeting. The selected article was reviewed by members of our Executive Board, and through this initiative we aim to provide emerging scholars with meaningful opportunities to publish their work.
Our journal continues to grow, and we remain committed to restoring both consistency and relevance in our publication cycle. I extend my sincere gratitude to everyone whose dedication and collaboration made this issue possible.
