Description

"Bottom to top: Betty Klaric, Robert Anderson of Stanley Engineering, Fred Marr, Ohio director of Natural Resources; Sherman Frost, of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, aboard the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers dredge 'Markham.'" -- photo verso.

Dredge boats like the one pictured here dredged up over one million cubic yards of silt a year out of the river bed. Pressure was put on the U.S. Army Corps, who operated the dredging, to negotiate for industry in Cleveland to contribute to the cost of this on-going cleanup. Similar arrangements had been made in Detroit and Chicago.
