Abstract
Although women are represented throughout halakha as actors, as questioners, even occasionally as disputants, there is one role from which they have been thoroughly excluded: scholars and interpreters of halakha. Despite their exclusion from the study of halakha, however, glimmers of women's influence are pushing through. And even in bioethics there has been a recent movement for change among feminist but traditional women scholars, who have begun to speak to such issues as abortion and contraception.
