The Marilyn Sheppard murder case was omitted from the agenda of a 1955 session of the Science of Law Enforcement Institute held at Western Reserve University. Coroner Samuel Gerber, who was one of the sponsors of the gathering, said, "We aren't talking about the Sheppard case or any of its ramifications because it is now under the jurisdiction of the Court of Appeals".
