OpenCon Cleveland 2022 Conference

OpenCon Cleveland will be completely virtual again this year and will be held on May 20, 2022. OpenCon is an annual regional event which celebrates the benefits of open education to student learning. Faculty, students, librarians, instructional designers, and administrators, especially in Ohio, are all welcome to this FREE series of presentations and discussions. The theme of OpenCon this year is Collaboration in Open Education.

Here’s what you can look forward to at the conference!

  • The theme of our event this year is collaboration in open education.
  • The event begins on Monday, May 16th when attendees can view lightning talks at their leisure via our Slack channel. Conference attendees are also encouraged to participate in asynchronous discussions via Slack.
  • May 16 – 20: Lightning Talk Presentations

    These lightning talks were available on our Slack Channel for all registrants of this Conference and are now available here.

    On Friday, May 20th the conference shifted to synchronous discussion in our three live panel events via Zoom. A keynote presentation, "Collaboration in Open Education", was given by Anita R. Walz. Videos for these sessions are now available (scroll down to Schedule for details)!

    Anita R. Walz, Assistant Director for Open Education and Scholarly Communication Librarian, Virginia Tech

    Anita WalzAnita R. Walz is associate professor at the University Libraries at Virginia Tech. In her role as Assistant Director for Open Education and Scholarly Communication Librarian she aims to inspire faculty to choose, adapt, create, and publicly share learning resources which are more accessible to students and flexible to potential adopters. She holds a Master degree in Library and Information Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Bachelor's degree in Economics and Philosophy from Wheaton College and has 20 years of experience working in international, government, school, and academic libraries. She recently led a multi-institutional team of faculty and librarians from Virginia Tech and Cleveland State University to generate and review a sharable test bank resource for the open textbook, Strategic Management. Her research interests include: library involvement in open educational resource initiatives, collaboration, library publishing, economics of higher education, and effective teaching practices for college-age and adult learners.
