Reimagining the Educator Preparation Program (EPP) Pedagogy Experience with OERs

Presenter Information

Start Date and Time

Program Description

In an era where critical thinking and innovation are needed in our educational settings, we must equip our future educators with the resources to reimagine teaching and learning in their classrooms. This session will spotlight how a redesign of the pedagogy courses that focuses on promoting and authoring OERs is transforming our Educator Preparation Program (EPP). What started with simply using OERs instead of expensive textbooks in pedagogy courses has quickly morphed to having teaching candidates create more meaningful materials and resources to use in their field placements. The learning targets will include an initial conversation around why and how this course redesign occurred, lessons learned during the process, and how initial qualitative and quantitative feedback from teacher candidates, students, and other stakeholders is supporting this shift in practice. The hope is that our experience in not just using OERs but having teacher candidates author their own OERs will spark and stimulate further conversation around how an EPP pedagogy redesign can be replicated and enhanced in the future. We recognize that future educators are overwhelmed in the first few years in the classroom; therefore, we believe the pedagogy course is an ideal time to introduce and apply new learning around OERs. This will provide educators with a library of current, original, and relevant resources to create engaging learning experiences in their first classroom.
