Program Description

Open Educational Resources (OER) have transformed access to learning materials, but artificial intelligence is accelerating what is possible. This session explores how AI tools can support both the curation and creation of high-quality OER while maintaining academic rigor, equity, and accessibility. Drawing from practical classroom implementation in psychology courses, this talk demonstrates how AI can assist in adapting open textbooks, generating culturally responsive examples, developing assessment materials, and designing multimedia supports. Rather than positioning AI as a shortcut, this session reframes it as a collaborative design partner that helps educators iterate more efficiently and personalize learning materials for diverse student populations, particularly first-generation and community college students. Participants will leave with a framework for ethically integrating AI into OER workflows while maintaining transparency and quality standards. Learning outcomes: Participants will be able to: —Differentiate between AI-assisted OER curation and AI-assisted OER creation. —Identify strategies for maintaining quality and accuracy when using AI in open resource development. —Apply at least one practical AI prompt strategy to enhance equity and accessibility in OER materials.
