Description
On March 13, 2013, Jorge Mario Bergoglio was elected pope and took the name of Pope Francis. Relevant to John Carroll University, a Jesuit institution, Pope Francis is a Jesuit and the first Jesuit pope. On this occasion, Special Collections at the Grasselli Library is exploring books within its inventory related in some way to the papacy. This presentation will highlight books in Special Collections at John Carroll University that have a papal association.
Among the books highlighted will be the Missale Romanum promulgated by Pope Pius V, Antwerp, 1571, published by the Renaissance printer Christopher Plantin; and Pius XI On Christian Marriage, New York, 1931, a book crafted by the American book designer Daniel Berkeley Updike.
