Abstract

Karl R. Schuele, one of the Sheppards' neighbors, stated that he had known the Sheppards since they moved into their home. The night of July 3, he and his wife went to a picture show in Avon Lake, Ohio. They returned early, listened to a baseball game, and went to bed. His children returned around 1:30am. He was not aware of the murder until around 7am when Mayor Houk and Chief Eaton came to his door to tell him. He and his family went down to the beach to look for footprints, which they found and pointed out to Bay Village policeman Jay Hubach.
