Description

"Barge aground at harbor entrance" --photo verso.

Although the river fire of 1969 might be the most famous environmental disaster in Cleveland, our city and surrounding region have had others. In 1976 a barge ran aground near Whiskey Island; risking the loss of over 30,000 gallons of fuel oil in our lake. Thankfully most of this spill was cleaned up.

Oil spill cleanup cost $300,000. (1976, May 24). Plain Dealer, p. 11A. Retrieved from NewsBank.
