Abstract
The article focuses on the role of a leader in promoting an environmental management system in organizations. Corporate environmental entrepreneurs have the capability of influencing their companies for participating in voluntary environmental management improvements. By providing explicit support to voluntary programs the evolution of environmental entrepreneurship within organizations can be encouraged. Regulatory coercive approaches are found to be less effective than the role of the environmental decision makers and voluntary programs. The ISO 14001 program is an example of a voluntary environmental initiative modeled to enable an organization to move beyond regulatory compliance.
