Presenter Biography

Carma M. Coley is now a 32-year retired teacher from the Warrensville Heights City School district: twenty-seven years teaching high school reading and five years teaching elementary/secondary physical education. The high school reading classes provided opportunities to create reading topics/lesson that exposed students in all grade levels to the enjoyment of reading. Ms. Coley is now a part-time reading intervention teacher (Title 1-grant funded) for the same school district at Warrensville Heights Middle School. Ms. Coley received her undergraduate degree from The University of Toledo (Bachelor’s in Physical Education) and Master’s in Education from Kent State University (Curriculum and Instruction- Reading Specialization). Ms. Coley has taken additional coursework in engaging adolescent readers, improving writing skills (K-12), and the Ohio Humanities teacher’s institute series. She also teaches an ACT Prep distance learning course through WVIZ.

Description

The CSU History Department and Educational Service Center of Cuyahoga County partnered together with the generous support of Ohio Humanities to present the Migration in Global Context Teacher Symposium. The conference is the culmination of events associated with the Migration in Global Context: History, Narrative, and Project­based Learning 2015­2016 program.
