In June, the co-chairs of the SON Diversity Council, citing the April event as a successful test pilot, requested that CLASS remount the Henrietta conference in order to maximize its potential by upgrading the IRB for a more qualitative focus that would lend to broader research. Members of the CLASS Dean’s Diversity were pleased to accept and extended the invitation to the College of Education and Health Sciences.

Several factors distinguished the second proposed symposium, including an increase in breakout sessions representing a broader range of interdisciplinary approaches, increased participation by classes from Nursing and Social Work to provide more in-depth exploration of the ways in which diversity and disparities are addressed in these disciplines, an emphasis on institutional research, and a broader discussion of bio-ethics with the inclusion of NEOMED faculty. Like the first symposium, this event featured the film, Bringing Henrietta to Life and was open to the CSU and Cleveland community.

“Bringing Henrietta to Life: A Dialogue on Disparities across Disciplines” was held on November 15th. in the Main Classroom Building
