Program Description

Panel discussion on Friday.

Video Description: Adopting OERs is a great first step toward improving student outcomes; however, we also want our students to *read* the OERs adopted. In the video presentation, we will show how we use collaborative annotation tools + OERs to foster engagement with content on a weekly basis while generating class data to analyze at the end of the semester. One of the challenges to using OERs in the humanities is the sense that reading on a screen is a very different experience, and one that doesn’t foster deep analysis or reflection. Pairing an OER text with a collaborative annotation assignment can help to alleviate those concerns because it changes the reading experience from passive to active, and from isolated to communal. In the synchronous discussion, we will explore a variety of tools and pitfalls to avoid.
