Asynchronous Pre-Recorded Lightning Talks and Viewing Discussions 2024

When the Teacher Becomes the Learner: Can Open AI be used to Strengthen the Faculty/Student Relationship?

Program Type

Lightning talks

Start Date and Time

13-5-2024 8:00 AM

Program Description

Much faculty discussion around AI either focuses on how to prevent usage of generative AI or how to incorporate its usage through creative assignments. Here I propose a third way to approach these conversations. Does Open AI present an opportunity to strengthen the faculty/student relationship in a unique way? In this presentation, I will suggest ways that faculty can use open AI to facilitate metacognition, to assume the role of learner, to increase transparency in learning outcomes and to build trust with students. At the end of the session, participants will be able to identify connections between open AI and evidence-based teaching and learning strategies and evaluate how open AI might impact faculty/student relationships.
