Description
Chat with Cleveland bookbinder, Fran Kovac, and examine models of books from the fourth to fourteenth centuries. As a practicing bookbinder, Fran has studied the history and progression of bookbindings and has created models of many historic structures. The bindings that will be presented cover much of the first millennium of western bookbinding; each will be discussed and described, and attendees are invited to handle and examine each structure.
Fran Kovac biography
Fran Kovac is a student and teacher of bookbinding and uses all the curiosity of both in her private practice in Cleveland, Oho. A student of the history of bookbinding, Fran has recreated historic bindings and uses many historic techniques and sewings in making contemporary decorated bindings. Since 2009 she has taught at the Morgan Conservatory, Hollander's in Ann Arbor, Michigan and for San Diego Book Arts. Her bookbinding studies have included classes with book historians Julia Miller, Pam Spitzmueller and Jim Croft, among others.
