Description
In addition to a tour of the museum's Ingalls Library, Rachel McPherson, Digital Projects Librarian, has organized a display case exhibit that coincides with the museum exhibition, "Tiffany in Bloom: Stained Glass Lamps by Louis Comfort Tiffany" on view in the Focus Gallery .The display case features the library’s Nihon meiga kagami. These volumes include many woodblock prints mirroring famous paintings by a multitude of artists. These books reflect the kind of works from which Tiffany & Co. designers took inspiration when fashioning their silver and subsequently glass creations. Although some Japanese themes are more obvious, such as the bamboo on the shade as well as the base of the Bamboo Table Lamp, others are subtle. For example, the Autumn Leaf Globe Table Lamp reflects the watercolor effect of the prints while depicting leaves more typical of an American landscape.
The display also features a digitized version of the publications publications and accompanied by an iPad where visitors can “flip” through the digital version.
