A yearlong program commemorating and exploring the 15th and 19th amendments to the U.S. Constitution. The year 2020 marks the 150th anniversary of the ratification of the 15th Amendment, which prohibited the abridgment of the right to vote on the basis of race, and the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, which prohibited the abridgment of the right to vote on the basis of sex. It also marks the 55th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act, which gave the federal government wider powers to enforce these amendments.
