Abstract

A light flasher has been developed for use with the open-shutter photography technique in elementary-mechanics experiments. The unit operates on two AAA-type batteries with a flash rate that can be made independent of battery potential. One to three lamps can be driven by a single flasher making it possible to determine, for example, the angular displacement of a puck as well as its position on an air table. One model of the flasher is integrally mounted on an air puck and provides space to mount ring magnets for experiments involving magnetic interaction. Several applications of the flasher circuit are discussed.
