Description

Marie’s Restaurant, located on the corner of St Clair Avenue and E 45th Street in historic St. Clair Superior is the site of 105 years of immigration – and migration - history. What began as a story for Cleveland Historical about an ethnic restaurant soon became a story about the generations of immigrants who lived, loved, worked, ate and drank at 4502 St Claire Avenue. It became a story of about the first, second and third-generation Americans who made St Clair-Superior a neighborhood, and how that neighborhood has and continues to change. The story is told through three lives: German-born Anselm, who built the building in 1905; Clare Mary, who grew up in the neighborhood in the booming 1950s and turbulent 1960s; and Mila, the current owner who migrated from war-torn Eastern Europe in 1986.
