Join us for our third annual OpenCon Cleveland event, back by popular demand! At this event we'll celebrate and explore open education and open access with speakers, panels, and activities. Librarians, library staff, instructional designers, and faculty are all welcome to attend.

Jasmine Roberts
Keynote Presentation: Critiquing Privilege Politics in Open Education
Jasmine Roberts is an educator, speaker, writer and strategic communication professional. She earned her bachelor's degree in communication studies and Spanish at the University of Michigan and her master's degree in communication at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
She joined the School of Communication at The Ohio State University in 2012, where she teaches upper level undergraduate courses in the areas of communication campaigns and strategic communication writing.
In conjunction with her communication expertise, Roberts is also an open education leader and advocate. She strives to ensure universities and colleges nationwide implement accessible and affordable learning practices. She is the author of "Writing of Strategic Communication Industries," a free, openly-licensed textbook and writing guide. She is also a member of the Midwestern Higher Education Compact.

Dr. Matthew Vetter
Keynote Presentation: Wikipedia for Open Education: Pedagogy, Information Literacy, and Knowledge Equity
Dr. Matthew Vetter is an assistant professor of English at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he teaches in the Composition and Applied Linguistics PhD Program. A scholar in writing, rhetoric, and digital humanities, his research leverages technology and innovative pedagogy to create meaningful connections between academic and public communities. Vetter has published over a dozen articles and book chapters related to writing studies, information literacy, and Wikipedia-based education in premiere journals and academic presses. An early OER advocate, Dr. Vetter contributes to open-access projects as an associate editor at Kairos: A Journal of Rhetoric, Technology, and Pedagogy and senior co-editor of Writing Spaces, a peer-reviewed, OER textbook project for college-level writing studies courses. Dr. Vetter is a veteran instructor with the Wiki Education Program, and has been teaching Wikipedia-based assignments since 2011. With financial support from the Wikimedia Foundation, he has also planned and facilitated numerous Wikipedia Edit-a-thons aimed at tackling the encyclopedia’s gender and racial biases. As a researcher, educator, and higher education leader, Vetter is committed to sponsoring open and equitable educational practices that challenge members of the academy to become agents of public advocacy and social change.

LOCATION
OpenCon Cleveland 2020 will be hosted at Cleveland State University.The main Conference on Friday, February 28 will be held at the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law building (LB), in the Moot Courtroom. Access the Law Building from East 18th or East 19th Streets. There is no access from Euclid Avenue.
The Pre-Conference on February 27 will be held at the Michael Schwartz Library, located in Rhodes Tower (RT building).
